Volunteer with The Silver Line

Everyone, no matter who they are, needs someone to talk to and connect with sometimes.

As we get older, these moments of connection can be harder to come by. Loneliness can be tough, and many older people know this from experience, especially those who live alone or further away from family.

Age UK's Silver Line Helpline is a free telephone service just for older people. Our callers have the opportunity to chat, access support, and enjoy all the wonderful benefits that come with talking to a friend.

But we can’t do what we do without our incredible volunteers picking up the phone day after day.

Volunteer to support older people

By volunteering for The Silver Line, you’ll be joining a compassionate team committed to uplifting older people and helping to keep feelings of loneliness at bay.

As a volunteer, you’d be offering callers the chance to connect with someone who cares. That could be through a quick, friendly chat about their day or a much-needed heart-to-heart.

Some of our callers may be in challenging or emotional situations, but having a friendly voice at the end of the line can make all the difference.
