1 Million Minutes with Good Morning Britain

We’re delighted to be taking part in Good Morning Britain’s 1 Million Minutes 2019. Around 1.2 million older people in the UK struggle with severe loneliness and chronic isolation, many speaking to no one for days or even weeks.

The Silver Line is the UK’s only free, confidential, 24-hour helpline specifically for older people. We offer information, advice or a chat whenever needed, as well as befriending services.  Launched in 2013 by Dame Esther Rantzen, we have already received more than 2.5 million calls and have connected almost 7,000 people to our telephone friendship services.

We know from older people that just a few minutes of time can make a huge difference. Many of our callers have nowhere else to turn and describe our services as ‘a lifeline’.  We need volunteers to help us reach even more older people. Why not join us in our fight against loneliness?
