Silver Letters provide the opportunity for older people to exchange regular friendship letters with a Silver Line Friend. The service was created for people who may be hearing impaired or for those who enjoy writing and miss the days of receiving handwritten letters in the post.
The service is completely free and for any older person who likes to write. We have partnerships with care homes throughout the UK, and we also receive frequent referrals from occupational therapists, care providers and other organisations.
We know that Silver Letters can be a really rewarding experience for participants and we are extremely grateful to The ASDA Foundation who have so generously funded the service since it started.
“I really look forward to receiving my Silver Line Friend’s letter in the post. What news will she have this time? We write to one another every two weeks about everything from gardening to where we grew up. It’s a brilliant service!” – Ida, 82
All you need is a pen, some paper and just enjoy writing and receiving letters – everything else is provided by The Silver Line.
If you know an older person who might be interested in joining Silver Letters to exchange regular letters with a friend, you can download and complete a referral form here or if you have any questions about the service please email [email protected] or call 020 7224 2020.
Due to the huge popularity of the role, we are currently not recruiting new volunteers to this service. However if you are interested in volunteering for The Silver Line in another capacity, please do get in touch.
