The Silver Line joins organisations to launch the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness

The Silver Line is proud to be a member of a coalition carrying on the work of the late MP Jo Cox – The Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness.

On 31 January, we joined MPs, policymakers, and other groups to launch a new campaign to tackle loneliness, which has been set up in the late MP Jo Cox’s name.

The Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness aims to expose the growing crisis of loneliness and look for practical solutions to reduce the harm to individuals, families and the nation. The Commission will also target businesses and employer organisations and look at what action local and national Government can take to combat loneliness.

The Silver Line Helpline overwhelmed by calls across Christmas and New Year

In the period between Christmas Eve and January 2, we received over 15,000 calls from older people.

But our helpline was only able to answer two-thirds – leaving over 5,000 callers entirely on their own when they desperately needed someone to talk to. To read the Express coverage of this, please click here.

We urgently needs more donations to enable us to meet the rising number of calls and to ensure our service remains free and accessible to their older callers. To make a donation please click here. To read the press release, click here.
