The Silver Line is thrilled to announce that Chief Executive Sophie Andrews’ TEDMED talk, which she gave to the prestigious conference last November, is today (Friday 9th March) being published on TEDMED.com as well as the TED Talks platform (TED.com).
Drawing on her experience of addressing loneliness among older people at The Silver Line, as well as her personal story which led her to volunteer for the Samaritans for over 25 years, Sophie’s talk is about the power of human connection; and how simply listening to another person with empathy and without judgement, can literally transform – sometimes even save – a life.
She received a standing ovation from the gathered audience of luminaries in the healthcare sector – and hers is one of the talks chosen to be released on both TEDMED.com and TED.com.
Commenting, Shirley Bergin, COO TEDMED says:
“When designing the TEDMED 2017 Stage Program, myself and the entire TEDMED Editorial Advisory Board were moved by Sophie’s powerful personal story and her commitment to improving the lives of the UK’s isolated seniors. Social isolation is being recognized as a serious public health problem, so having this topic represented on the TEDMED Stage was important to us. We are thrilled to be able to share her talk with the world across both the TEDMED and TED platform. Sophie gave a beautiful and inspiring talk last year, and we are honored to help share her work and story with the world.”
