Friday 2nd March was The Silver Line’s busiest day since launching, with the helpline receiving 1,859 calls in one day.
Unseasonably cold weather across the UK from Wednesday 28th February until Saturday 3rd March generated a big spike of calls, with more than one call coming in every minute.
Calls included everything from asking for help around the practicalities of finding a trusted person to fix a boiler through to people who live alone and need emotional support as they feel scared and isolated.
The cold weather also meant that some services shut down or ran a reduced service, making The Silver Line even more invaluable as a source of support.
The Silver Line is always open whatever the weather, and can offer information and advice on keeping warm and healthy in adverse weather conditions. We can help connect you to local services like meals on wheels or a trusted tradesman. But most importantly, we can offer emotional support and a time when many may feel more isolated and lonely than usual.
Please call our free, national and confidential 24-hour helpline on 0800 4708090.
